From September 21st to 26th, the 20th edition of the São Paulo Boat Show, the largest indoors fair in Latin America, was held at Expo Imigrantes in São Paulo.
CRC Composites visited the fair and observed all the innovations and technologies present in the Brazilian nautical sector.

With an estimated range of around 100 exhibitors, there were plenty of attractions for boat enthusiasts, varying from small kayaks, jet skis and speedboats to 76 feet yachts where the composites demonstrate their potential.
The Brazilian nautical market feedback was very positive for exhibitors this year with a total of 320 units sold, a better result if compared to the last event in 106 which the sale of 250 units was accounted for.
The event also featured a 2,500 square meters space called “the wish space” where a wide variety of luxury items were exhibited such as electronics, automobiles and even an Augusta Helicopter model AW139 containing high-tech composites, as an example Its rotor's carbon fiber made blades.
Within the event it was also possible to visit the PADI Dive Festival, the largest and most complete diving event in Latin America, where visitors could find a vast exhibition of equipment and diving accessories, as well as live demonstrations in a diving tank set in the middle of the area.
The fair estimates the presence of approximately 32 thousand visitors during the 6-day event with a total revenue estimated in R$ 220 million (US$  69 million) in sales done during the event.

An ambitious European project is being highlighted in the global composites sector with a promise to bring big results for the Nautic segment, focused specifically on large ships.

Called “FIBRESHIP”, the project financed by the EU “Horizon 2020” program, aims to produce large hulls for commercial ships by using thermoset composites with fiberglass, reducing its weight to approximately 30% if compared to the traditional steel structures, bringing a bunch of benefits for the ship itself , like an estimated decrease in fuel consumption between 10% to 15%, a load capacity increase up to 12% and an increase of the recycling rate from the current 34% of steel structures to 75%.
The “Horizon 2020” program was created by a partnership between the EU countries with the prime objective to secure Europe's global competitiveness, The “FIBRESHIP” project has the support of 18 entities from 11 countries, including universities, research institutes and companies in Europe.
